you use filters even in your art.. you may find it easier, but in later terms you get worse by doing so.
the picture's concept is original, but the worked out object needs work; its a guy in a runic cape standing in a storm..nothing really interesting.. maybe you could add him a screaming mouth, or a twisted face with yellow glows..
and for your storms, they look like streams of pee, add them a white core, to show the intensity;

my advice for freehanding isnt to make one big refinated art, but to make a lot of small arts but be careful while doing them, it may be more fruitful. you gotta rid of your habit to do filters.
