The LaarSkarper in his natural environnement...
It's a mix of screenshot, freehand, cnp, filters and recolor (!)... The picture of my LaarSkarper is a screenshot with freehand on, the reflect on the water is cnp and filter, and the background is cnp + recolor^^

its a little blurry and too hard to make out.
for this type of thing you need to either search further to find a good quality background pic and find some textures or you use a digital camera and you find a good location that would suit the picture for the background and then take a photo of it.
freehanding such a background would take a long time esp if you wanted good detail. i would probably skip on the detail of the background and go with silowet background with lighting on the edges of the trees.
overall: this works well as a abstract fantasy picture but needs to be more clear. 3+
