I've played through this map a few times, for reasons I'll explain in a second. It's good, but it could definitely use some work.
Gameplay: 7/10 - The battle system is very cool, one of my favorites that I've seen. It's like Legend of Zelda 2 meets Final Fantasy meets Warcraft III. However, I do have a few complaints. When you stand still for a while, the amount of enemy groups on the map builds up way too thick for my tastes. Not necessarily because it's too hard to get by, but because it causes a lot of lag. Second, there's not enough character variation, but I'll address that in a different paragraph.
Characters: 4/10 - There's almost no character development at all. Only Fiona seems to have a real backstory, and it's never really satisfactorally explained. Ethan's character also bothered me because he didn't really seem to be there for any particular reason, except just to be a hero, and he also was unnecessarily brash and unlikeable and stupid (As in, he responded to threats with "shut up.") All of the other characters in the game were, quite literally, just there. What was with the Zeno character? A Dark Paladin? Why? What made him "dark," exactly? What was he there for? It's never explained. Same with the Dreadlord and Elementalist characters. They were literally just there to be there. I realize that character development might not work with the style of game you decided to make, but I think there should have been parts where you're required to take a certain character, at least in order to give them a friggin' point for being there. Also, the characters seem unbalanced. The spellcasters in this game are worthless beyond reason (except maybe Fiona, but only because of her support abilities.) The fighters get boring after a while.
Spells: 5/10 - The spells are basically just modifications of other spells. I don't mind it that much, but they do get boring.
Terrain: 7/10 - The terrain was great at parts, especially the desert ruins area. Other parts were rather...uninspired, I guess. I can understand this due to a lack of space from the different battlefields (which were all superb, by the way.) However, the part that bugged me the most is that when the bridge to HundredHoofs fell, you had to take a ridiculously long path to get back there, through the disgustingly laggy swamp. This seems really unnecessarily out of the way, especially if you don't have the teleport rod.
Graphics: 10/10 - The custom skins are all superb. I especially love Lord Vernon's skin. A great Undead Paladin. Lord Thoridaz' skin is great too, although the corpses floating around his head are a little much.
Quests: 7/10 - Some of the quests in this game are not well-directed enough, like the quest to find the Black Orbs. It took me forever to figure out where they might be; No map ping, no hints at where to go...nothing at all, except a quest menu telling me to find the neutral orbs. Also, a lot of the quests just seem pointless and out of the way to get a few spell points.
Bosses: 6/10 - Most of the bosses are fun to fight, but the sheer difficulty of some of the later ones is what really brought this score down. Lady Adera is impossible to kill because of her invulnerability. Lord Thoridaz is just plain moronically hard. I realize he's the last boss and all, but even with ALL the combat points and ALL the spell points and a maximum level, I couldn't beat him.
Story: I don't know what to give this. I don't understand the story. It makes no sense at all. Nothing is really explained, just that Lord Thoridaz wills it that way so it happens. The explanation for why Lord Thoridaz couldn't use the Scepter is "for some reason." The story needs work more than any other part of the map. Not to mention that no character other than Ethan and Fiona have an important part in the story; you could tell the whole thing with just the two of them!
Music: 8/10 - Very ambiant, very appropriate, but Sweet Christ Almighty, it gets annoying. And you can't turn it off! Also, it could use more variation.
Overall: 7/10 - Fun to play, great map, but has a few glaring holes that need to be fixed.
Suggestions:
1. Rebalance the characters. There are no ranged fighter characters, and the offensive spellcasters could stand to be a little stronger.
2. Perhaps get someone to edit your writing; the dialogue is very dry and mostly consists of people saying "shut up" back and forth to eachother.
3. If you make a sequel, try to involve the other characters instead of just having them there to be there.
I'm not sure if you're still updating this, or if this is even a bug, but it's a possibility.
I couldn't seem to kill Lady Adera with any sort of strategy, or with any form of party. The battle would basically go like this: I'd attack, she'd shield with invulnerability, take out two heroes while shielded, and then when shield goes off, she starts using a special form of Cold Arrows I guess since every time the last hero gets hit with it is stunned. I've tried everything I could.. until finally I just cheated. The other battles were easy, although the last boss is a bit tough. I still don't know how people managed passed her.. so I'm thinking she was bugged and just doing tremendous damage since every other encounter with her was extremely easy in comparision.
This map is amazing. Without a doubt, it is the best map I have ever played. Everything is just done so masterfully, as if a Blizzard employee did it himself. The terrain is lush with deformations, noise, and doodads; much better than the dull, flat terrain that so many maps seem to have nowadays. The storyline is terrific, with twists and turns everywhere. The reinvented battle system is astounding; like that of a true RPG. The concept of inventory is so unique in mod maps nowadays; I suppose it's kind of like a menu screen in RPGs. Each spell was redesigned, instead of based off of already made Blizzard spells. Too many people make maps where the spell names, icons, and virtually everything are the same. In mod maps, the audiences love to see new spells with exotic names, unique descriptions, and triggered/JASS effect spells! Spells like Holy Fire and Ground Slam left chills running up and down my spine! Most importantly, I learned a lot of triggering from you. I opened up your map in the World Editor and thanks to you, I now know how to make skippable cinematics! I hate to see great maps become ruined by the fact that you can't skip cinematics! Their replay value drops drastically as well! Anyways, this map is truly the pinnacle of perfection. Never have I seen a map done with such skill. Bravo! 5/5
The guard in Tamorhal tells you that Julius fled to the desert. Or does Bob disappear? Roggdor will help you sooner or later to get to the real desert, there's a camp with a shop and Julius.
Arena quest: I think you cannot finish it by purpose, you can do it several times to get more money.
I have a question about the game... How the hell do I complete the Blacksmiths quest to get back his weapons?
Everytime I go to talk to Bob and after his asks me to see Julius in Tamarhol he dissappears. How can I find him? This is driving me nuts and how do you complete the Arena quest? I talked to marius and finish the arena and it's still not complete...
OOOOHHHHH MMMMYYY GOOOOOODDDD this is definetly the most awesome map i ever played. this was SO much fun and i dont even find a bug ^^.
6/5 if possible ^^
@ vampiro: perhaps too late but ^^: U have to get the neutral orbs from 2 caves. One is located in the winterspring on the upper right (east to the spot, where u find cindra) and the other one is in the glades (half the way between the fist city and the place where u found the scepter (right spelled?)...
Great map. Can't wait for another one. There are only two things I only like and don't love about the map, everything else is absolutely awesome:
- Most of the "replacement heros" are available pretty late in the game and I'd love to see them more included into the story, perhaps one dying, another one leaving after a quest... whatever. Blueeagle rocks (The hero as well). Me want more goodies. Love the forge. - I don't have real complaints, I want more. Much more. More weapons/armours/whatever. More maps like that. Full fledged campaigns.
Excellent Map!! Can someone please describe how to get to the 'Desert'. I seem to be stuck not being able to knock down the rocks to the South or Open the Blue Gates. Please help!!
hey i d/l this file again.. n thnx for uploading it again and it still doesn't work for me.. on the map menu thingy in wc3 there's no player selection option and when i click start.. it goes back to the same menu...my wc3 has patch 1.17...do i have to d/l an extra thing for this?..or is it cos i run a downloaded wc3 game...
hey i downloaded the map but wC3 can't open it....i did't d/l it from here though i got it from gamespot.. cos i think the link's broken here or something...
Well this is my first review, because I was always too lazy. But I definitely HAD to review on this RPG.
First off, the story, nothing much special about it but it is enough to keep the player intrigued. 4/5
The gameplay was superb, the reason which woke my lazy ass and reviewed. The battle system was very unique, which makes this game more exciting than other RPG maps. 5/5
Overall, it is a great RPG and i urge anyone who is reading this right now to download this excellent map.
Version 1.04 - Fixed Secret Hero bug that could cause a fourth (bugged) partymember - Fixed a little music bug that could cause the desert music to not play anymore - Fixed Exorcism ability buff - You cannot teleport out of HundredHoofs while it is under attack anymore - Sleeping at an inn now resets all ability cooldowns of your party - Now every owned Hero gets full health and mana when you sleep - Moonlight Shadow Ability cooldown decreased, damage increased - Cure Ability now heals life and mana, but cannot target self anymore - Added 'Monster Counter' feature to options menu so you can change the appearance delay of monster groups. Please note that I do not recommend changing it, because it affects the gameplay balance very drastically.
MY GOD this is a true RPG. I RATE THIS 5/5 but one thing u flaw is that their isnt alot of new music. Almost the whole game is one music. you should think about getting different music in each region.
i'm stuck... I'm at a point where ur supposed to look for some statue in a town.. also,i can't seem to make the forge work >< if u have any help for me that ur willing to share PLEASE PM me or IM me if i'm online...PLEASE. anyway i think it's a great map personally
I will start off by saying this is the best non-campaign RPG map avaiable. Too much to compliment. Great use of absoluetly everything. 5/5 needless to say. I can only imagine how much time and effort was put into this.
I only have one small suggestion- to lock the camera during the battle scenes. As it is right now, players can still wonder the camera around the map during fighting, so it only gives them the feeling that they are being warped to a small room in the corner of the map to fight as opposed be being converted to a battle screen final fantasy-style. -VGsatomi
Very cool map dude! Even though I haven't finished playing it yet, lol. I keep saving the game and going back to it later. Anyway, it's still an awesome map, I reckon it's really cool, great storyline and nice idea too.
If i should tell you how good this map is it would crash this website... But for that i don't wanna do that i just say 1000 000 000 000 000/5 And also wanna tell that i havn't downloaded it yet. So it's kinda dumb so tell that yet... But i like it when other say it's funny.
.. That map roxx.. .. .. But.. I played with cheat codes.. .. So it only took me 3:15 hours ... But it roxx .... But where the F*** was the secret hero?.. :S.. And i never found tha little gnome :S.. And the Dwarf died ... Hehe.. But it was VERY cool.. .. Maybe think i would play it again.. Another day.. ... Without cheatin.. .. Hehe... Ill give it 5.5/5 ;D... Hehe.. Cool map ..
I'll get on that now. But I'll need your email address so I can send it when I'm done.
Edit: Wow, I didn't realise there were quite so many cinematics in this map. Well, it'll take me several hours to go over it all, so give me a bit of time.
You're welcome to send me an email with better grammar which could make it in a next version of the map. Only thing I don't understand is that some people say it were just a few things and others say the whole text is hardly understandable.
I'm checking for the Secret Hero balance in the next few days and there may be a couple of changes to him in the next version. The story will stay as it is now.
-The story was kind of whacked at some points, but I won't count it against you because it was overall good.
-You should add some descriptions to the spells, because when you buy them your just gambling, you don't know what your getting.
-The grammar all over the place was VERY bad, but that's, of course, because english isn't your first language. I'm not sure if grammar matters to you, but if you want I could go over it and fix the spelling errors that this game is littered with... but I wouldn't do it unless you want me to.
-Finally, the... secret... hero you get for beating the game isn't good enough to make you want to play it again, and I think that's the only reason you'd have one that you only get after beating the game. It needs to be more uber, with some very interesting (and stronger) abilities. I replayed the game just long enough to get it, and after just one battle I felt no urge to play it again, it just wasn't a big enough deal to for me to play a 7 hour map again. The point of secret heroes is so you have an uber-good hero, and you'll want to continue playing (or replay in this case).
Just maybe take into mind what I've said, and especially the spelling part. It may just be me, but when it comes to grammar I'm a perfectionist, and so many spelling errors bothers the hell out of me.
Oh, ya, for now I'd say 4/5. 5/5 if you do some of the things I suggested. I won't vote for now, because if you DO do any of them I couldn't revote. Again, please consider at least some of them.
THIS MAY SPOIL THE GAME FOR THOSE WHO HAVEN'T PLAYED IT THROUGH!!
Hey, can someone PM me how to get the secret hero...I had the last version and I went to the cave near the end of the game right before you fight the final boss..and he told me the codeword, but I forgot..and I REALLY don't want to play all the way through the game again. I know your sposed to take the red orb to the corpse at the top of feria...but then I type in AWAKEN and REVIVE and all that other junk...and well nothing happens. So if someone knows please PM I really did find the ghost..and beat the game.
You should add: - All cinematic fixed. Jeeez it was so boring to watch a cinematic consisting of 2 cameras and some dialogue all the time. And the worst of all was that I couldn't skip them either because I wanted to read the important information
Ok guys, I wanted to wait with the new version until 1.17 is out, but I guess that won't happen too soon so here is the new version.
Version 1.03
- Help dialog cannot be activated while in combat anymore - Only one cinematic can be activated at a time now - Fixed reverted secret Hero armor/weapon upgrades - Fixed Secret Hero bug at 'Scepter' cinematic - 'Water' ability now has correct damage output at every level - Increased damage of 'Earth' and 'Fire' abilities slightly - Decreased cooldown of 'Earth' ability - Fixed 'inventory not available' message - Fixed bug where the Secret Hero becomes Fiona in a cinematic - Jon now really dies
PS: Don't spoil too much here. If you have any questions you don't want to discuss here, email me at [email protected]
I found out how to get the secret hero but it really screws up the map, theres alot of bugs with it like when I replaced Fiona with the scret hero, BlueEagle says what Fiona says and his name changes. Also when you find the Sceptor of Gods, Fiona appears out of nowhere and then when she gets captured you can't use your 3rd party hero again, so you got 3 heroes running around but only 2 attends the battle and the inventory and the 3rd hero is just buging around screwing the game because he can still use the inventory to teleport the other 2 heroes back to where he is.
Damnit I love this rpg so much, if possible i'll give it 100/10, the custom made models are perfect. The stroy line was excellent. Well anyway, about the secret character BlueEagle, I have found the ghost and I think I know where the corpse is BUT how do you raise him? Do you have to say.........? (Am I aloud, or is this going to far?)
i am unable to locate this so called ghost of blueeagle at the starting of the game...i am guessing i wont be able to get the secret hero without finding this ghost...i know where the corpse is..but where the heck is the ghost..
The hidden hero can only be found as your start a new game (before you bring the red orb to Gorwin). If you paid attention to what the ghost of BlueEagle said, you'll know what to do then. And no I'm not going to say it aloud here, secrets aren't meant to be told, but earned.
Oh by the way, there's a bug with that secret hero. The upgrades buttons (weapon/armor) are inverted. So whenever you want to upgrade his weapon, you have to click on the armor button, and the weapon button for his armor.
This map deserves 5/5 from me, so here you go I have discovered a bug(?) though; when I was in combat with my both heroes I typed help and my heroes suddenly was out of the arena
There is a Glitch with the Last part of the Homeworld quest when i walked into the starting city just after it is attacked (on fire) a cinimatic started I pressed escape it updated the quest message but i now i have no place to go. I used help and it pings the tauran in the city but walking up to him does nothing. So i'm stuck no idea what to do or where the blue switch is so i can't get into the desert.
I just looked at the quest message It says.
Go back to Roggdor (Complete) Find Roggdor at Feria Find Roggdor at Feria
Sigh with the time i have played it would be nice to win but oh well i doubt i'll start over but maybe you can fix this error for others. And maybe add a easyer way to move around its' anoying haveing to run all the way up a moutain to talk to someone that tells you go back to the town you were at... Just anoying after a while wehen i have 9000 gold and im not really leveling at this point in the game.
I just downloaded this map and tried to play it on private game, It doesnt work because it says the map is too big! I really want to play this game cuz i got sick of Dark Lineage owen ...How can i make this mape work?
i am having problems finding the statue your supposed to talk to, where is it. i found a large statue, the elven suit iof armor one and nothing happened
Version 1.01 - Fixed Shrinked Quest message - Fixed Lolo "Ethan becomes Level 1" Bug - It's now a lot easier to find the secret Hero
PS: something screwed up while the first upload and so it shows incorrect data above. It should be a 1 Player RPG and the file size is 6 mb.
Here some information:
Story It's about the young gladiator Ethan, who got teleported to a magic dreamworld created by the most powerful mage ever - Lord Thoridaz.
After coming to this demonic world, Ethan lost all his memories, but the further he goes on this world, the more does he get confused about Magnador and his own past.
Features - Create your own hero party like Final Fantasy - Forge your own items - New combat system (don't panic, all real time) - Over 60 skipable cinematics - More than a dozen quests - Epic storyline, which provides more than 6 hours of fun - very console like RPG feeling (like Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana ...) - and a lot more...
It makes me very happy to see that you liked my map so much .
I'm already making Magnador 2, but I think I'll need a few more months to tell something about it. At least I can tell you that the story will be continued in a large campaign. And of course it will still be a true RPG.
Right now I'm busy writing the story, characters, and new features but If I need any help with the terrain/spell editing, I'll let you know. Thanks.
Hey BlueEagle, I would definately like to work on your next map/campaign with you. I can't trigger worth beans but if you need a guy who will make alot of items/regular spells/and terrain (I love making terrain) then I'm your guy. PM me or contact me at [email protected].
6/5 (I almost splooged my pants when I played this map)
Loved your rpg. Only bug i saw was when i talked to Lolo afterwards my character was a lvl 1 starter ethon and i had no other characters. I never did finish the wooden set i didnt feel like waiting for a runestone to drop again. Will you be making another map like it said in the final credits?
Damn the last boss is insane. Your map is the best one player rpg i ever play. Im borred of WC3, nearly every rpg i try, i play 5 min and i close the game, damn i pass over 8 hours non stop on your map
