I want to make a map ( i don't know if i arrive to finish it ^^ because i have never finish a map !! but i think i finish it) her name is : The return of the One ring I don't know if it's the name but it's my idea ! i use this model : sauron, orthank, barad dur. GOOD JOB OLOFMOLEMAN YOU ARE MY FAN !!! ;)
wow another amazing model olof brilliant
Well anyway look forward to some more lotr models.
Oh and btw I found a program that exports models from the .big files for bfme2 and a plugin that can import them into gmax. I've tried it and failed horribly because I can never get the exporters to work But u might be able to do it so if u want some models and maybe textures to base the models off? Just pm or email me.

No thanks, I only use base models because I can't animate. what's the fun in that? just copying stuff and posting it.
nice doodad olof!

that's because mine and the one you showed are both based on the movie.

EDIT:
I meant 8 sided, I misspelled
and I was talking about the top not the whole tower

a crossection of the tower would look like a cross, wich has 12 sides
that Orthanc from bfme2 is incorect, that one looks more like it has 8 sides instead of 12
Yea ok had a look Orthanc is 6 sided.

http://www.hiveworkshop.com/bob27/images/bfme2/orthanc.gif Olofmoleman's model looks alomst identical to this one which is from bfme2, and in bfme2 they got alot of the details right. The shading down the side is almost identical to the shading down the side in bfme2 as well.
If you have or have seen the extras of the LoTR movies, then you will know that Orthanc is in fact pitch black, and made from black obsidian (volcanic glass), so using the obsidian statue as texture was an obvious choice.

and about those pics you gave a link to, there is a simple explantion, lighting.
I don't want to start a long discussion here, but anyway: the brown might have been wrong, but at paintings, as wéll as pictures from the movie, Orthanc is grey... Maybe you saw the shadowed side of the tower, but it ís grey to my knowledge...

Besides from the black skin, it's a great model and definatelly the best model available atm for Orthanc

Pictures:

http://fan.theonering.net/middleearthtours/orthanc.html
http://membres.lycos.fr/sarouman99/images/Fantasy/Orthanc.jpg (as you can see at the border of the big 'circle' around Orthanc, the visual side of Orthanc is the side that isn't lighted by the sun)

(About the sphere in top of the Orthanc: The tower has no sphere, but you might be confusing this model with Saruman's staff, that does have a sphere hovering in the middle of those 4 uh... walls)

Looking forward to Barad'dur alot. But isn't the top supose to be circular? I havn't seen in-game but from what the screenshot looks like its more of a sqaure.

You are talking about Orthanc right? the Orthanc model isn't perfect, in order to save size I didn't add all the tiny details it should have, if I did it would take much more time to make and would make maps really slow, anyway the top of Orthanc is not circular, it's six sided.

and btw, Barad'dur is about half done.

How did you know how that tower looks like though? Detailed description in the book? Or copied from the movies?

From the movies, that seems a bit obvious don't you think?
WOW this is amazeing great detail, no custom textures needed, and its ONLY 14kb im speechless

5/5

Very nice model, though a version with custom skin (or at least making the tower less black and more brownish and grey) could be cool too

It's suppossed to be pitch black, not brown.

Wow Truely Amazing Moleman!
What Program did u use ? vertex modify?

Yes, with vertex modifier

And I'm working on Barad'dur now...

This is just as good as all your Star Wars models, which is saying a lot. Definately a 5/5. I'll tell my friend Chadpata7 about this; it will work perfectly in his Two Towers map.

i could use a work animation, a death animation and a birth animation, but otherwise ITS GREAT!!!!!

It's a doodad, and Orthanc doesn't get destroyed in LoTR, so it doesn't need more anims, it would just be a bigger file size.

:o
Very great model:
- many details
-> looks awsome
- few polygons
- no custom textures needed
-> tiny file size
There remains nothing to wish. I suggest this for Director's choice! :D

I'll surely use it in my campaign.
And very little size, great.
The "NO CUSTOM TEXTURES NEEDED" makes me want to hug you lots.
Wow nice i like it alot 5/5
