When i started mapping, i didn't have a clue what to do, so i downloaded the best maps i could find at the time and i studied the triggers until i understood them. That's what newbies should do.

Did it the same way. I already had some experience using the SC editor (and the Freespace 2 editor, but that doesn't fit to WC3), all the other things I learned from the tutorial orc cpn and the other blizzard maps, and by try and error. Till now I never asked someone something concerning to WE itself (as I remember )
