map names

would you play an average map with an outstanding name? would you play an outstanding map with a name which is bit off from somewhere else? or would you play none of them?

If the Name is very good people may play the map once...
If the Name suckz the map must be very very good so acually people play it and see how good it is...

So of course good name + good map is the only right way.

It can go either way. Its true that a good name and minimap is a good eye-catcher, but if the map is boring, it can have both of those and still not survive.

Try to avoid putting your name in the title, (i.e. BlahBlah8609's TD or Blah446's Hero Seige), it makes you look desperate to spread your name around. Somtimes minimaps are used only to hide how low quality a map is. (i.e. no terraining done would normally make the minimap on a map look bad, but can easily be hidden when a custom preview is used).

Always make sure your preview pics are not off topic to the map. An AoS map that takes place in the dark ages doesnt need a candy red ferarri in its preview pic.

Don't forget that description or a comment to describe the gameplay of your map may also be very helpful when it comes to publicizing it. ^_^

hmm interresting topic ;) My opinion is the following:

A "catchy" map name is not really necessary, I think it should be most importantly descriptive. More important appears to me a "catchy" eye candy minimap in combination with such a descriptive title. This should give everyone an idea of what awaits him when playing the map.

On the other hand, it is really intelligent to add some screenshots to the map, not by stuffing it into the minimap but by writing a descriptive comment under your map and by putting a few screenshots into this comment. This gives people a glimpse at your map without needing to download it.

I agree with VGsatomi concerning that people hide minimaps not to show ugly terrain, but even good terraining is not as attractive as an eye candy minimap picture ;)
