Changing Name

I want to change the name of a hero in-game.
There is so that you can write a chat massage, but I don't want every chatmassge to change the hero-name.
Want I'm looking for is so that I can change the hero name and still be able to write massages, and also save the name into a variable.
Is this possible? If it is, please tell me how.

As far as I know, you cannot change a heros proper name, but you can put it into a string using "Hero - Hero Proper Name".

But then I have to change the whole name directly. I want the player to be able to choose hero-name by themself.
Correct me if I'm wrong, witch I hope I am.
