Tools/Colors for Armor?

Well, can some of u guys give me some idea's to create a good armor? Or some tools would be usefull, since i'm not good to create such good armor. The other stuff is fine by me..

Plate mail
chain mail
studded leather
scalemail
hide/skin
ring mail

there r others but im too lazy...

Mostly Metal, like Plate mail ,ring mail, some like those..
