Need help with channel drain ability

Is there a bug with life drain and mana drain that when you assign a trigger to the spell, you cant target a damn thing at all, if u target enemy, they would say, pls target firnely unit, if you target allies, they tell you to target enemy, other than using the spell "channel", is there any other way to solve this?

Are you talking about spells downloaded from Wc3 Search?

Or are you making a custom spell using Life Drain/Mana Drain as your base ability?
