Milkshape 3d is the best. In this case, less is more. All you need to do is get past the initial MDL editing blockade and it's far easier to work than any other editor.
how could u get past thhe blockage?? i've tried ms3d before and i messed up badly but it seems better than vertex modifier which is only good for editing models fast
I use Gmax and so far i havn't had any problems with models all tho the exporting script a bit primitive. why it is not supported by the company anymore there plenty of simple tutrials for it and if you want i can provide links to them for you.
(Warcraft Model Editor+Gmax+Decent paint program= everything you need to mod almost every aspect of warcraft 3.)
The best way if you're a novice is probably to use Magos' Model Editor - it imports from Milkshape directly these days. I prefer kdub's beta 0.2 MDL exporter because it's faster and more convenient (for me) to use notepad and/or the Finaliser.
well i tried gmax before and i got so confused i almost shot myself in the mouth...sure if u want u can post tutorials for it and i'll go download it again and try which im waiting for a register code for milkshape and vertex modifier just plain old sux badly
Vertex modifier is a powerful tool if you know how to use it. Not that I do, but check out Olof Moleman's stuff - he has got Vertex Modifier to do some crazy stuff over the years.
Yes, I use vertex modifier it rocks, at first I was like OMG!! I can make everything with this, but now I'm more experienced and making more complex models it keeps getting harder to make them with vertex modifier. so, if you are a starting modeler, I would definatly recommend vertex modifier.
i've tried vertex modifier cuz yes im a starter modeler but i cant like rotate and create stuff in it..i can only edit small stuff in models..and i've tried the tuts on oinkerwinkles site but i couldnt do the last one and the geoset merging one...i might try 3dsmax 9.0 since my friend is gunna help me with it

DON'T USE 3DSMAX 9.0.
It does not work at all for WC3. You have to contact someone who will sell 3dsmax 4 or 5 to you (or download it illegally). Those are the only ones that work with the Art Tools, as found in our Tools section. That allows you to get your 3dsmax models into the WC3 model format, .mdx.

you can rotate stuff by selecting it clicking the rotate button and drag, it's that simple as for creating new stuff, you can, it's just a bit more complicated, there are two ways, copying existing parts, or import a new geoset with the Geoset merger.
