Im at the brink of depression map file too big

This weekend I went to a friend's house to set a LAN and test the first version of my map (Flag Chasers) the bad deal was that as soon as I tried to create the game it all went to hell as soon as I started cuz it said can't load map file file is too big try loading another one... :( I know I imported a lot of models icons and things but isnt there a way I can keep them and reduce the game's lenght?

File size over 4 mb? There's way to compress map size, but not here.

wrong, u can dl optimizers on this site. dl vexorian's map optimizer on wc3campaigns.com cuz there is the newest version

First, you can try using Vex' optimizer, it can save over 200 KB. You can also manually compress skins (even to 50% of original size without losing quality!). There's always a way.

200 kb? it saved 20% from my map and that was like 700 kb, but after removing custom l screen it removed like 450 kb it is really reall helpful when u have big maps in campaigns

How do I compress Skins???

One of my friend's map is 5 MB, optimized with Vexorian's Optimizer is about 3.6 MB. That meams 1.4 MB saved.

By the way, I don't think you need to compress every resource you import into your map, I've never tested it, but it might reduce the quality aswell.

Anyway, don't forget to give credit to the creators of those models, skins, and every other resource you've imported. And good luck

Sure I will they all have a space at the loading screen as well as Xander, Dhk_Undead_Lord, Purple Poot, Destro_Ant and all the people that helped me trigering, I think giving credits is very important because its the only way we have to repay each other the service we all give between us mappers.

and what does this optimizer do??

how can you reduce a map size without sending anything to the trash bin?? :O... anyways.. if that's possible, that's a lot of help for sure.

Heh, it dropped one of my 4 meg maps by a whopping 40kb. Not worth the risk of screwing up your map as I've seen in the past from people who've used optimizers, if you ask me.

It can indeed be dangerous, so always keep multiple backups of your map in different places before you use these tools. It did cut 570~ kb off my map, too, but it won't do very much if your code is very clean to start with, which i think is the case in your situation VG.

To compress skins, you'll need a converter (Wc3 Image Extractor II is the best one for this) to convert .blp to .tga and back. First you open up the blp, save it as TGA, then open up the TGA again to save it back as .blp but then in the quality box, set it to 75 instead of 100. This will reduce the size on the .blp ALOT (If it hasn't been saved like that already) and it won't be notable ingame (I've done this with all my skins and icons).

it usually depends whether u use Open or not, and if your space is taken up by imports or game data.
