do skins normally take this long or did he lie?

Depends on the speed of the artist. It is not really something you can measure like "making a skin takes 1 day, 3 hours, 29 minutes and 17 seconds".

yeah if it's a probono project it could take up to half a year or more.

If it's low paid then maybe 20-40 days.

If it's well paid and I'm talking $30/hr when I mean by well paid. Then it should be done by the end of the week.
