How long did it take you to become a good mapper?

Just wondering how long it took people to become a pro map maker?

The other day i was working on my map, and my brother came and took a look at it, and said," is this a joke? This looks to easy". So i asked him to give it a try, and he made it look easy.

If youre talented it doesn't take long
You need the right ideas and some craftmens skills to realize them
And you need someone on your IM to give you advice *g*

You will never be able to know everything about mapping

really individual, just try it;)

you cant really define the term "good mapper"
its like saying a good race horse picker to see who wins.

The wc3search forums is a bad place to look for good mappers.

well this really depends on what you mean by "good"
for expample, I know that I could do a multitude of things with the warcraft editor that NO newcomer could figure out on his own without an IQ of at least 115-120
but I also know that I am unable to do things that some pro mapmakers do in the blink of an eye, for various reasons ranging from lack of talent/experience to lack of softwareresources.
so some people would say I'm good and some people would say I'm okay, and some people would say I need to try a LOT harder. it's all a matter of perspective.

heads up, theoretically the average IQ of a person is 100.

I consider myself I good mapper, been experimenting since the day WC3 was released (in Hong Kong).
Although, as some people know, i still need to post for help every now and then :( .
My advice would be to find where u can excell, and find people to help in parts where you need help.

hm I think it tooks 5 month ... You have to learn all:
 the object editor
 trigger editor
 jass scripts
 Making the own spells
 Changing of map settings ( map icon etc. )
etc.

I don't know why you have asked this but I thought I could give u an answer xD
