I recently found for myself that a 4MB map is the max size for hostable game on BNet under normal conditions. I have been wondering though are there anyways to get around this, also I heard Map Protectors shrink the size of maps but by how much?
i dont think map protect shrink map size, and im kinda sure about it
and when you say around 4MB, you mean bigger? cause 4MB its lots for Bnet map, once i my friend try to host 4MB map in Bnet (he got adsl) and the fastest people download it in 45 mins (more or less)
45 mins? Lol, sounds like a transfer between two 56kers. Protecting a map deletes certain files within the map (thus making it non-openable), so it shrinks it a little. Although I discourage map protecting, that's just one of the other pros for doing it... -VGsatomi
Downloading a map varies between the host, the location and the downloader's connection speed. Protecting a map may not delete not needed things but may also modify files within it
Honestly, though, it bears being said that you need to drag your map down to a size more around the range of 1mb or smaller. Else, I don't expect that you'll see people download it very often.
