JASS/GUI Enhanced Spell Contest (the results are up)

Ok, as Arcane Competition has just ended, I'll launch a new spell contest.

There are 9 categories into which you can submit spells. You can submit max 1 spell per category, and your spells have to be new.

When your spells are finished, you should upload them to the spells section (in a single map), and make a post here with a link to the spell, and where you have listed which spell comes from which category.

The categories:

Aura - Aura spells. Every spell that is an aura. Examples: Thorns Aura, Brilliance Aura.

Chain - Spells that works in a chain. Examples: Chain Lightning, Healing Wave.

Might - Spells that involve throwing, stomping, bashing leaping and such. Examples: War Stomp, Thunder Bolt.

Channeling - All spells that require channeling. Examples: Starfall, Volcano.

Debuff - Spells that affect one or more using in either a positive or a negative way, using a buff. Examples: Howl of Terror, Divine Shield.

Passive - All passive spells that aren't auras. Examples: Critical Strike, Bash.

Morphs and Summons - Spell that either morph a target into something else, or summons a unit. The morphed/summoned unit can have custom spells. Examples: Hex, Summon Lava Spawn.

Arrow - All spells that enhances ranged attacks and are auto-castable. Examples: Searing Arrows, Black Arrow.

Miscellaenous - Spells that doesn't fit into the other categories. Examples: Blink, Sleep.

Rating

Your spells will be rated by the following system, the maximum points you can get is 100:

Coding (max 35 points) - How effective is your coding? Has it leaks? Are you using useless stuff, and many bj functions? Is your coding difficult or piece of cake to make? This is those things your rating here will depend off.

Balance (max 10 points) - Is your spell balanced, or at least balanceable? That's what your rating here depends off.

Idea (max 25 points) - Is your spell original, or has it been done countless times before? Original spells will get higher ratings here.

Eye/ear candy (max 15 points) - Has your spell good eye candy and good sound effect? This is what you'll get points for in this category. Note that if your spell lags due to too many effects, you'll be downrated.

Implementability/configuration (max 15 points): - If you tell people how to implement your spell and have maken configuration functions or similiar things you will get lots of points here. Else you won't.

Deadline

The 8th of october 2005 GMT your spells has to be uploaded to the spells section, and the link to it posted here together with the categories.

Systems/scripts by other people

You are allowed to use KaTTaNa's Local Handle Variables functions, Vexorian's Caster System and any other system you might want to use AS LONG AS YOU GIVE THE AUTHOR CREDIT. If I see a single stolen line of script in your spell, I'll disqualify it.
Note that if you are nearly only using functions by other people, you won't get many points yourself.
You are NOT allowed to use any templates, this includes Vexorian's templates and my Swirl spell Template, and all other templates that might exist, nor may you copy from them.

You are allowed to use custom icons and models aswell, as long as you credits to the creator.

You are only allowed to use the normal WE, WEU or any other 3rd party editor used for making the spells will disqualify the spells.

Note: this contest is just for fun, there will be no price (among other things because I can't paint) with the honor of winning as the only exeption. There will a 1st, a 2nd and a 3rd place in each section, as long as so many spells are submitted.

If you have questions, feel free to post them here or PM me.

Good luck everyone!

are you sure you want to make it ONLY for jass.
that's a bad idea i think.

and you can tell afro to paint the prizes.

anyway,i join.

but i want to know which guys will do so.

the only one that comes to my mind who might join is leopard.

Forget Vexorian and Daelin.

uh.and today i saw his prizes of the arcane,i must say they were preety nice.(they are hosted on wc3c,not for view, but i saw them somewhere else.)
#3
Forget Daelin? That's not fair! I'm curious to see the competitors though.

Yes, I'm sure. I don't wanna look trought GUI code, that's waste of time, in my opinion. Only Jass.

BTW, if any GUI users want to join, they can just see Vexorian's tutorial.
#5
i said forget daelin because he was busy with arcane and might want a "break" now.
and vexorian has a lot of work to do now! he is quite buisy.

Blade. do you think that those who will read vexorian's tutorial will be able to get the points on Coding???? i say no! if you want i can help with judging gui spells and jass ones too!

but i insist to accept gui spells if you want the competition to have a future, there arent much the jass spellmakers.
#6
*ok, I'll allow GUI then.
#7
I think you forget What The Spell Does on rating system.

Think about it, people just make a AOE spell damage with great effect and of course no-leaks code, then he will get much point.

He can do perfect on all rating field except the Idea, but that's no problem, since it just worth 10 point.

I think you should consider about What The Spell Does, not only on it's coding. You give too much point on Code rating, in my opinion.

Balance has far too many points. You could reduce its points to 10 and give 20 instead to idea. You can include difficulty into idea then, considering that people might make leakless, pathetic simple spells, great looking and highly implementable. That would result in 90 points or atleast, close to it! So think about this aspect.

What about old spells, which were completely changed? I am talking about my old 'Spell Collaps' spell.
#10
I was too late to join the Arcane Competition so I will join this one. Is it okay to put comments in the script code telling what each part of the script does so it would be faster to understand?
And like everyone else said, there should be more points to the idea and less to coding. It's important that the spell is unique and usefull.
#11
I say I would only join the contest if only JASS spells are allowed, other people had their chance with Arcane competition.

Although time is important too, I also have too few ideas latelly.

But I have to say that latelly there are many JASS spell makers so it would be interesting to have a good JASS spell contest.

DaminonIs it okay to put comments in the script code telling what each part of the script does so it would be faster to understand?

It's indicated to do that... Always write comments in your codes anytime they are for a contest. If you do this, it will greatly help the judges. I know this because of the AC, where very few people made comments. And I simply hated that!

Ok, changed the rating sys.

Vex: I would like that aswell, that's why I started with that opiniion. But Nantuko made me realise, that this site has nearly only GUI users, and therefore the constest would be small. But.. How does that affect YOU? You can still make yours in JASS, and the tendense with AC was actually that JASS spells were highest rated. I guess it will be like that in this contest. Seeing you joining would be wonderful..

Daminon: Yes comments just makes it better, of course it's ok.

well since blade and vexorian want a contest only for jass, you might add a category named "JASS" where only jass spells are accepted, and as well another one named "free" where people can submit any kind of spell.
#15
Umm, I think that's the Miscellaenous section. People can submit anything that doesn't go into the other sections... Isn't that free enough? I think it is...
