I'm so sick and tired of seeing newbies stealing other peoples hard work and claiming it for their own, or map makers not giving credit to the maker of models and skins. I think resource stealers should be banned for an X period of time, and if they do it again, banned permanently.
Let's just create a list. Nick/aliases of thief, what resource he stole, name of map where he used it, and link to place where the resource is hosted with real author's name. Voila.
i agree with you all, here is example of stealing ^^
i've joined b-net game called starwars footy or something like that, and i were talking about models used with creator of map, and i asked him, if he got working yoda model, because olofoleman's got fudged attack animation, so he said something like "DAMN YOU, YOU KNOW THAT MY MODEL ISN'T WORKING, etc"
1. he said that all models used in his map belong to him, because he downloaded it and now they are his models 2. he did not given credits, and in game some peoples said "nice models where u get them??" "i made them etc" this was crap, this must end some how
Well, not giving credit is one thing. If someone takes the time to make a quality resource like olof here, they should recieve proper credit in whatever map they were used in. But thats just it, its essentially a courtesy. Making a rule making it so maps were deleted for not giving credit would serously deplete our archive (which may have to happen anyway). It may be rude, but its not stealing. The public is given free and unlimited access to the resources here.
However, if they use a resouce and TAKE CREDIT, then that is a bad thing, because that is flat out stealing.
I mean, I've played a few maps that had my models in them and not once have I ever been given credit, but that doesnt anger me. Now if someone claimed they they made them and not me, then thats a little different. -VGsatomi

maybe they didn't give you credit for your models, but did you ask for it? I did, I supply this site with as high quality resources I can make all I ask is credit for the work I do, is that so much to ask? I think not. so in my oppinion there are two types of "stealers" Newbies and "real" stealers newbies just didn't know they broke a rule or over looked something, that can be forgiven. but people woh don't care and act as if tehy made it them selves should be punished.

yeah...
here's one that stole my Hell Dragon mod just a few days ago Name of stealer: Egie poo poo Resource stolen: Hell Dragon
and I have an idea... what if "real" stealers get a permanent ban on uploaing resources. if they steal once they can;t do it again. they could still come to the site and download stuff and post on the forums, just not upload stuff. so, what do you people think about this?

they can still host that model on other sites like hubb or wc3c i jusr realised, but that is still a tasty idea.
he also used my dragon and changed the wings by simply lowering them and some crappy skin in ms paint i thinks.. and he didnt even ask.
Im gettin pissed off at him...i might give him some ideas and such to help him but him using other models as bases and then adding a simply gradient or crappy skin is just not on.
Hmm...yeah...if i saw one of my models being used on bnet and someone said that id friggin kill them.

We (Wc3C) do not condone stolen resources, and all uploads to our resource center require aproval from a member of staff to be displayed to the public. Most of the staff are aware who-created-what and the like. If a stolen resource is found, it will be removed from the database.

^^ koolies..just hope they dont steal them....i cant wait to submit some stuff, but yeah..maybe there is a way to mark models and skins by either digital water mark or for models, mdl heading data so noobs will miss it and get caught.
When you make a map, keep a list of Modelers, skinners and beta testers. Put them in a credits section on quests or make them apear in game - message to player trigger.
