The resource stealing has to stop!

The correct way of giving credits is listing all authors of things you did not create yourself AND list what objects they made. If you don't credit that way you are, more or less directly, stealing.

Example of crediting (from my map where it is a quest, color codes just replaced with bold tags):

Blade.dk: Map, terrain, spells, AI, Inventory System, some icons, some models, and everything not listed elsewhere.

Vexorian: The Caster System, The Hero Selection system, the SimError, GetPlayerNameColored, Bounty and GetRandomPlayerName functions, the Storm, Earth And Fire and Airy Charge icons.
Mc !: The Blaze, Arcane Pyramid, Select Hero, Nuclear Strike, Bombs, Place Bomb and Explode Bombs icons.
weaadder: Bonus Mod.
Daelin: The map preview and the Duel Challenge icon.
KaTTaNa: AddTimedLightning function.
Cookie: Hero Glow models.
Eusira: Manastrike model.
EdwardSwolenToe: Electrical Shield model.
gookywooky: Holy Vengeance model.
Elunes-Guardian: Spit Blood model.
ArcanisteR: Burning Charge icon.
KoTuK: Holy Vengeance icon.

People that uses other people's stuff without crediting are idiots.

And by the way, why not delete maps with stolen contents from the site? It would help against your space problems, make the section cleaner and force people to give credits if they wanted their maps on the site. I hate that the site condones stealing, seriously, idiots are using the stuff I've spend hours on without even adding a stupid little reference to me, and their maps are accepted anyway.

ON one of my maps, I used like 50 models from this site. I gave credit to the whole website. Is that enough?

NO
you have to give credit to the makers of the resources, NOT the site that hosted all the resources, although there is no harm in tahnking wc3sear.ch for being one of the biggest wc3 mod sites on the planet.

When I say "I couldn't agree more" that would be an understatment...
oh what the hell, I'll say it anyway.
I couldn't agree more...

I can understand your frustration, olof, as you've put more effort into your resources then most other modelers combined, but I think deleting all maps that dont give credit is a bit extreme. They are simply using what is available to them, so I dont see it a technically stealing. Afro made a map black list a while back I believe in the maps forum to list maps and mappers that used uncredited resources...perhaps you can revive that topic if you so desire. But if people take credit FOR your resources, then let me know and I will have them removed promtly.

Should have kept ur mouth shut then, lol.

Seriously though, now; People have spent hours making them resources and the least you can do is spend 20 mins to just find all the resources still here.

If i was to put credit such as:

someone just asked that question, and the answer is no. find the authors.

What about listing the type of custom resource (such as skins, models) and posting the names of the authors that made the sources of that type? Example:
Source Type 1 (skins for example): Name 1, Name 2, Name 3, etc.
Source Type 2 (models for example): Name 1, Name 2, Name 3, etc.
-Basically what we need is a uniform standard for giving credit that we can all agree upon and post it in the map section as a guideline for future map makers. (If its not there already.)

On all of my maps, I usually give credit to wc3sear.ch because without them, I probabl wouldn't have had the inspiration to becoma a map maker. I usually do my credits like DD_draco did in post b4 me.

But guys, you cant do credits the same for all maps. Some map makers might want their loading screen normal to see who are laggers. And with campaigns, you cant use the quest thing for credits, or it would ruin the apearance.

Maybe the following would be better official site guidlines:

For all maps:
Must include the person and material they provided.

For normal custom maps:
A message either on loading screen, In game message to ALL players, quest that is entitled credits or a cinematic message of at least 5 seconds for each person mentioned, and material provided.

For campaigns:
A credits screen at end of campaign. We encourage you to make it interesting so that people watch it, and each person must get at least 5 seconds shown. (if you want to put 5 people on same cinematic transmition, that would be 25 seconds)

For Single mission campaign style maps:
Once mission is over, Black mask fade then back in, and then put the credits cinematic in. (as I said above, try to make it interesting to encourage people to watch it

p.s: i know i ahve not included mellee maps, that is because if they where to use any imported resources, they would fall under the catagory of custom maps. For these, make your unique terain, because thats what mellee map making is about.

It doesn't really matter how the names are mentioned, what matters is that the authors of the credit they deserve.

Well thats the way im putting it, i hope that is the way you mean by credit because thats the way i put it :-)
#28
Yes, your way of doing it is good.
#29
yeah that is a good way.
---------------------
Hmm...im not sure though, this would be a err...unprocice eh? this one i mean.
Modelers:
blah, someone, drunk person, a cat person, anotehr person, blah, blah blah...
thats
i do know, i mean...if u use 50 models and like do this..
Models:
rat-Robby
dog-Robby
Bat-Robby
" "
" "
etc
id be watching that and id be like..o m GOSH! and id slam my head on the keyboard even if i did make those models.
maybe a rolling credits or in quests is always good and alot more fast and simple and precise.
i dont know...im just running out of ideas.

Im sure i could make a cinematics of credits but i just have to remember how to...at least that way people cant leave unless they shut down warcraft
