I feel like even if someone does agree with me that it won't happen, but I'll give it shot. I still go with what I said a while back.

I think people are placing their votes based on which resource they use/submit most often. This question would be better split up on each individual type of resource.

Skins and Models: I say we go with DeadDogNoGoWoof's idea of a better search method that includes more specific categories.

Maps and Spells: I say quality over quantity for these types of resources. This is mainly because these resources take longer to look at and you can't visually see all that it has to offer through a simple screenshot (unlike skins and models).

Other: I say these should remain the same as they take up little space anyway.

To elaborate, there should be a page with a large list of categories. These categories would help people search for models and skins tremendously. The minimum for a category should be 4-5 models and skins. This would eliminate all the posts that request a model that has already been made and make searching a whole lot easier. The search method that this site provides is insufficient. If someone creates a cow model and in the description includes "the cow can shoot missiles, fire laser beams from its eyes, and tackle down armies of robots and orcs", it would appear in the search everytime someone searched for a missile, a laser, or a robot. That just doesn't make sense.

Another thing that would be good to introduce would be model packs. I am aware of the low possibilities of this, but it would save a lot of pages. Just now, mucfuc2002 has released a set of statue models. This isn't his fault, but it takes up way too much space in the models section.

DeathbringerWe need a new admin that knows scripting, my vote is Vexorian but I believe he's dead...

We also need a few new moderators that are willing to purge the site of all unholy crap, and It would be nice if WoW models were not allowed also..

Maybe ban basic geomerges while we are at it =/

Vex is co-admin of wc3c, I'm sure he won't help with coding for wc3s.

Though....

I know some one who is great at coding, but isn't really amazingly well known here on wc3s I think.
Torch, he was the leader of the project I was a modeler for, that project is now dead, but Torch still is very busy with lotsa stuff, but I don't know anyone else to think of.

*cries* please...please don't tell me the dead project is the General Grievous model

I wanted to see it so badly, it looked AMAZING!!

Is Darky even alive anymore, and will there ever be the "Great Purging" that has been prophesized for so many ages, because as it stands it takes me FOREVER to open up a damn page around here, and I know the 300 gigs of recolred abominations aren't helping the problem out much...

I'm still waiting for the signal. Apparently there is nothing I can do about it until VGSatomi allows me. If there were a true purging, 50% of the icons section would be down (because it is crap).

Deathbringer
DO MODERATORS EVEN EXIST ANYMORE (besides you Rui ^^)

Yes I do... And DDNGW too. And DarkShadow. And Veggie. And Mecheon.

Deathbringer
We also need a few new moderators that are willing to purge the site of all unholy crap, and It would be nice if WoW models were not allowed also..

Moderators are willing, Veggie is not.

Deathbringer
I really wonder why this site even exists anymore besides maps and spells, those are the only sections that even seem sane anymore...

And I need to take a look over the spells section soon enough since crap is starting to gather around. People make all kind of useless systems. I wish people didn't just complain about us deleting their stuff. We are mods on this site, we decide how things should go (well yeah, we do it for its best, so I don't see the problem. The admins chose us carefully). Of course, Veggie has the biggest control.

So I'm still waiting for a signal for the grand purging, and I'll start deleting mediocre shaded icons (because apparently, those can stay), disallow geomerges... I can't even delete icons attached to models or skins, so there are many crappy recolors for units and doodads, and Veggie has nothing against them.

The WoW stuff is also not our decision. Veggie decided to let them stay, so unfortunately, they can stay. If the grand purging would come by, those models would be the first to be deleted, I'm sure.

I've had quite some problems with stealing (getting back on icons section) but apparently I can't prove that those stuff are stolen. Yeah sure, I was wrong on Crazyrussian. He does extra quality stuff and they looked too damn good. Hehe... I sometimes make mistakes as well.

Oh yes, and if that great purging ever begins, spells section enters in grand deletion. I see a lot of simple spells which yeah, may look pretty nice and maybe a little useful, but are we going on quantity anymore? Look what happened to us if we stayed on quantity (yeah yeah, we are number 1 resources, blabla, so what?)!! At a point, this stuff indeed was great, but now, that the site is so big, we must consider quality. There are already too much stuff... we reached the top, through quantity, but if this flood continues, the site is in big trouble.

And another thing, I believe Veggie is still waiting for Darky's signal. He cannot take this "grand purging" decision on his own. After all, Darky pays for the site and is the original admin of this site.

But anyway... something MUST be done. I agree with this!

Its not just Veeg saying the WoW models should stay

Darky's with them as well

I am however taking a very harsh stance on them, deleting most. You find any that break/don't work/other problems? Tell me and its gone
#20
Mech, I sent you a PM with crap that needs deletion

isn't there any way to make Darky change his mind?
#21
Oh god, not another "waaaaah we need more mods so more stuff can be deleted!"

I swear I'm going to drive a 5 inch steel spike through the skull of the next individual who thinks that moderating is only about deleting things. If I wanted someone who was only going to simply delete things they didnt like, I'd hand the whole site over to Daelin.

Yes, we are shorthanded and in need of more people who can actually check resourses. Here is the criteria we go by:

1. Are they skilled in the field that they should moderate? (i.e. is a potential map mod actually good at making maps?)

2. Are they an active member?

3. Do they answer people's question or offer advice to those seeking it in the forums?

4. Are the mature/responsible

5. Are they not employed elsewhere? (modding more then 1 site simply devides time up too much)

All those requiremnts must be met an yes, we are having a bit of a deal trying to find those who actually do (#4 being the biggest killer).

We will try to remain a place where both beginners and pros can showcase their work. It would be unfair to reserve this site only for the olofs and the Black_stans and Jigreals. We do have a minimum standard in place. Resources with absolutely no effort put into them are removed, but you seem to all want to move onto a "if its lower then olof's work, then burn it." I know it may not seem that way in the maps section. I admit I simply do not have the time to check every map as they come in. I might check maybe one out of every 10-15 (wouldnt be a problem if map protection didnt exist) maps that come in. Maps is particularly the problem because the only fair way to judge them is to play them. If its models and skins you are referring to, the models and skin mods use their own discretion in terms of what at least had some effort put into it and what was just seeminly another "me too" test run. If you think an excessvly low quality resource slipped through moderation, then please PM it to the proper moderator so it can be reviewed.

To sumbit the whole site to a quality standard raises one slight problem; by who's standards do we go by? By reading many of your comments, it would be a complete wipe except for the likes of those whome I mentioned before. That will not happen (the gavel was dropped after my site poll was read). That was how darky wants the site run, so thats how I'll run it. If you don't think tha tis the way to go, then ask him to remove me and replace me with someone more elitist.

And for the last fuck ing time....

...and I do mean the LAST fuck ing time....

the site speed HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE GODDAMN SPACE USAGE

Wiping out all our archives will NOT solve that problem.

It is not only the ressources but also the forums needs more moderation. The tutorial section for one, it took about a month before my tutorial got its own thread and that was only because I PM'ed DarkShadow about it.

Those first four seem fair, but that last one is just redundant, it's like saying if you have a job you can't become mod, or if you have to go to school you can't become a mod. Sure it would consume more time, but if that certain person still has enough time, then why not? Who are you to judge how much time some one has?

resources don't have to be perfect, they have to be useable and not stolen, people should also put effort in to it, not just dump something they themselves think is crap, almost no one is good from the start. but some just don't put effort in to it.
the way I think it should be is;
- crap or stolen = delete
- bad but authors want to improve it = give tips about how to improve it, then maybe or maybe not delete it
- Decent but not perfect = no delete
- Good = no delete
- Awesome (very high quality, regardless of the theme) = DC

but for that there should be VERY clear rules about what people are allowed to submit.

And I agree with ragingspeedhorn that the tut forum is undermoderated.

Heeeey... Who said that I agree with the only-good-at-deletion moderator stuff? I know the skills a moderator needs (hell, ain't I one? Though I agree that lately I could've done much more for the site), and that is why we have so few in the staff. We did not yet discover a person worthy enough to become a mod, that is correct...

VGSatomibut you seem to all want to move onto a "if its lower then olof's work, then burn it."

No, but the quality of the people's work on the site has decreased dramatically, basically because people feel that "ok, even if I don't make quality stuff, doesn't matter because it appears on the site, why bother learning more or making sutff better, if they are accepted anyway?".

VGSatomi

Let's not make this dramatic, ok? Nobody mentioned to increase the standard THAT high, but increase it anyway. I believe we should do increase the quality not dramatically, but still, increase it. We have loads of stuff on the site, and we can no longer make difference between "acceptable", "mediocre", "pretty good" and "great" (last are DC'd but anyway).

Anyway... dunno. Whatever you feel it is the best, I have nothing against it. But it's frustrating to see the elite leave because they seek a more "quality" site.

but overall I think Olof would make a good mod

I agree with this part. The bias that some people portray would inevitably force them to delete a resource that may be useful. If someone requests a model, I think they would be happy to get the model they requested reguardless of the quality. People consider different things useful and people have different standards of what crap is. Most of the better modelers/skinners will say that quality is better because they feel their work isn't recieving its proper recognition, but I say usefulness is primary to a resource.

I really don't think that the quality of the site has decreased dramatically because of what you say. I believe this has more to do with most of the better modelers leaving. Some people look to improve or not from the start. It doesn't really correlate with the site's rules.

well, that still is a bad rule IMO, what if some one had a wc3 mod site of his/her own, but still has enough time? or is mod at another site and still has enough time?

Last I checked, thats they way it is now.

last year maybe, right now it's worse then a garbage dump, useless crap gets posted almost every day, sometimes it take a week before it gets deleted (wasting a lot of bandwidth because of idiot who still dl it), and some times the crap doesn't get deleted AT ALL, take a look, there are about three walking corpses now, wich all look about the same, oen would be enough don't you think? and and some idiot has been posting "demo's" as he calls them, wich have no skin or anims, so they don't work, a few days ago mucfuc posted eleven statues that were near to the same, and all had WAAAY too many polys for just statues
and lots of other crappy stuff fills the sections (but I'm mainly talking about the models section, cause that's where I mostly come)

*cries* please...please don't tell me the dead project is the General Grievous model

I wanted to see it so badly, it looked AMAZING!!

No, Grievous is still in progress, the project I was talking about was swtj.

Wow.. VGSatomi you scare me now =( whatever happened to the quiet contemplating peaceful VG =(

So I'm guessing I'm not the first person to bitch about the site going to hell then? I mean I just came back, toured through the last 500 models/skins and then made a post...

You really didn't need giant red text... that really scared me.. that became more of a flame than anything..

Whats with Darky anyway? He kinda just disappeared, along with Oz02 and didn't make a post or anything about him leaving.

I wish more peopel would bring their resource into the models/skins section of the forums say "This is my current project, what can I Do to improve it" THEN when its finished throw it up.

I mean half the models on here will never be used, no offense to the guy who made the 12 statues of an elf in a thong, but how many people are actually going to use them in their map? Many of the resources are like that, and If you would like a list of things that are apalling and poor quality, I will start work on one =)

Overall Its nice to be back arguing with you guys again =P and Daelin, thank you for all your time helping me as a newb earlier, I can seriously say because of some of the help you gave me last year, my map skills are MASSIVELY better than before
