The Art Tools DON'T work with the following versions of 3DS Max

So yes. If you have 6 and 7, you CAN'T use the art tools. Hell, 7 is useless for WC3 modding until someone upgrades the Dex script anyway
Model Section Submission Rules
1. Models without animations will be deleted unless they are statues, some doodads (trees, rocks, etc.). If your model does not fit in those categories, post a picture in the Art Section of your model without animations, and take it down once the finished model is submitted.
2. Models above 3000 polys will be deleted, with the exception of glue/campaign screens. They are absolutely useless.
3. ANY model that is not yours and you do not have specific permission from the creator to submit will be deleted. If it is one of Xaran’s, Cookie’s, or RCX’s models, the submitter of the model will be IP banned.
4. Textureless models, or models with a very bad skin, will be deleted. If you would like people to see your model before a texture is added, post a picture in the Art Section, and take it down once the finished model is submitted.
5. Bad geomerges will be deleted. This includes, BUT IS NOT LIMITED TO, un-scaled or stupid head swaps, and models where the animations look screwed up when the two, three, or more parts are combined.
6. Models that only work in wc3viewer, and not in-game are worthless, and will thus be deleted.
7. ANY models found in any of the Blizzard wc3 MPQs that are submitted will be deleted.
8. Pointless models will be deleted i.e. something like a floating footman head.
9. Posting weaponless versions of already existent models, whether from the MPQ’s or from a model posted on the site previously, is against the rules. A tutorial for creating weaponless models can be found at http://www.wc3sear.ch/viewtopic.php?t=13613 (AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS TOPIC)
SEARCHING FOR MODELS
To search for a model, use the nifty SEARCH function
If the model you find isn't up to what you want, TOO FECKING BAD. EDIT IT YOURSELF
If you don't FIND a model, TOO FECKING BAD AS WELL. GO AND MAKE YOUR OWN. OR REQUEST ONE. IN THE REQUESTS FORUM
ON THE SUBJECT OF POSTING OTHERS MODELS....
Don't upload a model unless you made it yourself, or you have been given express permission (Except with Blizzard models, but they're free source anyway)
I don't care HOW fecking good it is, if the maker WANTED it uploaded they would have done it THEMSELF
I will BAN YOU IF YOU UPLOAD SOMEONE ELSE'S MODEL
Oh, and don't give me any of that "OMG ITS JUST A MODLE" junk. Would YOU like it if I came and stole some money from you, and then said "Its just money, you can just work some more and get more"? No, you wouldn't. Same principle
Uploading any of Xaran's, Cookie's or RCX's models WILL result in an IP ban, unless you are one of those three people
I've banned people in the past for this, I'll do it again
All stickies property of Mecheon. cept this one, which is property of the me.
HOW TO ATTACH MODELS.
attaching sword and axe models you download on this site is easy. go to the Special Effect section of the trigger actions pull-down menu. one of the two options at the top of the menu will allow you to attach an imported model to a part of a different model defined by a string. in the string, you would generally type 'hand left' or 'hand right'. for Auras use 'origin'. other attachments are rare since they are hard to work with in animations.
if the model you are trying to attach a model to already has a weapon on it, it is more complicated. download one of the BLP-TGA converters available on this site or any others, and open the skin you want to attach a model to. using an image-editing program that supports alpha-data(one is The Gimp, which is availible on this site for windows and OSX), alpha out the weapon part of the skin. import that skin with the proper path, and you will have a weaponless model. you can now use the aforementioned instructions.
as to projectile attachments, simply change the projectile art in object editor to the imported model. this only works on units based on ranged untis.
if ANY of the things covered in the stickies appear in the models forum, i will lock the topic immediately and deliver a warning to the poster.
