I agree with Sansui on this. There should be a much stricter quality policy. New people can post there works on the forums.

A lot of you are forgetting that space on the internet costs money. While it may not be a problem now, it could be later.

im 100% with good quality, i dotn like seeing simple geomerges or just anim transfers unless desirly needed. this site needs a major , and i mean , major purge.
#48
I believe it should go with the idea of putting it into certain areas, but certain resources could be cross catergorized. Revamp the directors choice only allow the best of the best. while having a beginers corner for critisim.

What this site needs is some purging yes but who will do that? Most sections lack of active mods so what this site really needs is a new line of moderators. The map section for 1 contains a huge amount of crap that deserves to be deleted.
#50
or maybe to whole sections of dl, like those ones pre-judged..and only when a mod approves they go onto actual line of dl or...they r queded or how ever its spelt..
abit like wc3c, but when they r pre-posted they cant b dled or previewed..or they can..i..i dotn know.

I think stricter upload rules will be enough, and everything that doesn't follow those rules should be deleted, no discussion, but those rules should be picked carefully.
and not just one person should make up those rules, together we should come up with teh best rules possible so that every resource that really deserves to stay, CAN stay.

Here is one idea

Models must have a portrait model or camera
#52
yeah i agree...pisses me off seeing fecked up in game portraits..
i think some of mine r missing potraits though..

i also think..maybe 2-3 main mods per section..and they must be active...

also...crappy filtered skins should be deleted unless effort has been made..like..maybe filtered..metals..just to do metals..then the cracks and scrapes..and the rest done my hand...i mean..like using gradients..
and map section needs cleaning..too many copies and no given credits to the orginal..
also..we need a better irc...it sucks..and its gone...
so yeah..go quality...
and..well the art section is pretty much dead do to too many subs at one during time..and being elfy not here again

One more idea,

No more copies of maps unless you have explicit approval from the original author
#54
Model and skin section has much junk yes but nothing compared to that the map section gets about 5-10 maps a day where atleast 2-3 of them deserves to be deleted.
#55
Another idea... they just keep coming

-Every single resource that is included in a map and who made it should be listed in teh credits of the map, unless the resources are made by the maker of the map.
#56
Bad idea, would take the mods hours just to tjeck 1 map then if it has a few ressources imported.
#57
maybe someone can create a program that scans the names of the imported models/files and creates them as a list.
so they can be checked..or well..i dont know...models..i mean the name that is hjidden within mdl format..

Any new information on this?

Frankly, I think quality is better, but we should also be a supportive and helpful site for new map makers and those seeking help.

I think the main section is the maps section that needs cleaning. I imagine maps usually take up the most space. I think quality control needs to come in when someone makes another TD or AOS thats suppose to surpass DOTA. Frankly, those genre's have been done to death, and people need to move on. I think most of those maps belong in VG's 'me too' catagory.

While we have many FAQs and Tutorials on the site answering most questions, people seem to be too lazy or unobservant to use these resources. Perhaps there is some way to make these resources easier to use and more noticeable? Also, the tutorials section above and the tutorials section on the forums are two different things. How about making the tutorials section link to the tutorials forum?

Another note on Quality Control: What about foreign maps? How can one know if its a quality map if you can't even read what to do?

Just my two coppers.
